Music Fun Book 1a

Music Fun Book 1a builds on the topics introduced in Music Fun Stepping Out* but can be used as a starting book for pupils already familiar with the staves and with reading and writing simple rhythms in crotchet time.
a

Rhythm

  • Practice in recognising and writing rhythms is given with notes from semiquaver to semibreve, including dotted crotchets and dotted minims.
  • Rests of a quaver to a semibreve are taught.

Pitch

  • Notes of treble and bass clefs are completed with “middle” C.
  • Sharps, flats and naturals, tones and semitones are introduced with a brief comparison of the “musical ladder” to a keyboard.
  • Some dynamics and tempo markings are covered in rhythmic settings.
Together Music Fun Books 1a and 1b, cover the ground needed for Grade 1 ABRSM music theory syllabus.
a
* For pupils just beginning music Music Fun Stepping Out teaches the very basics. Be wise and start theory early on - ideally from their first or second lesson - then your pupils will naturally accept it as part of the lesson and home studies.
