• Cut time and common time labels are added to time signatures already taught.
• Triplets and triplet groups with dots and rests are introduced in all time signatures with the help of word patterns. The notation is discovered for triplets in a half beat, a beat, a half bar and a bar.
• Writing of a four-bar rhythm with up to one bar given is explored, with necessary groupings of notes and rests.

• Adds A, D and E minor scales to the majors already known (Eb, Bb, F, C, G and D).
• The correlation between relative minor and major scales is found and from this the pupil forms the new minor scales, choosing the harmonic or melodic form to learn.

More Italian words and signs are introduced and used in musical examples and puzzles.
