Rhythm
- Compound duple, triple and quadruple time of a dotted crotchet is added to the simple time frame already known.
- Phrasing of tunes is introduced.
Pitch
- Note writing on treble clef is extended to four lines above and below the stave with pictorial use of ladders and rope ladders in a besieged castle.
- Scales are extended to cover those with four flats and sharps, and the pattern of sharps and flats in key signatures is found.
- Intervals from the tonic in a major scale are explored.
- Both harmonic and melodic forms of A, E and D minor are practised.
