Author of the Music Fun series of theory workbooks, the SOIR, the Weekly Practice Notebook and the booklet My child won't practise!
Written by Gillian Baskett who was, at the time of writing the books, a practising teacher of music with academic and practical experience in music and education. Her knowledge of teaching children from five years and upwards, including adults, can give your pupils a disciplined but lively approach to mastering musical theory. Music Fun was used successfully on her own pupils and it was their enthusiasm for the books that encouraged her to make the books widely available.
Knowing that material for young viola players was somewhat scarce and having been asked about such at exhibitions attended Gillian decided to create viola specific books revamping the material in the first three titles to make them treble and alto clef focused instead of treble and bass clef focused.
Also, being a primary school teacher she understands the need for affordable material that the non-musical specialist teacher needs to teach the music curriculum. Hence she extracted the appropriate elements of the early Music Fun books and restructured some of the work to create Stepping Out in Rhythm that can be photocopied as required by the purchasing school.
